Lots of clouds today, so went to Mare Island Naval Shipyard to take some pics of the old cranes. Took a bunch of different angles and exposures, but ended up going with a tonemap from a single RAW file for this challenge. Used 4 different adjustments to exposure and tone curve in LR, exported each as a separate .tiff file, then combined them all in Photomatix, back to LR for some more edits, then to PSE for some noise ninja, resize and border.

Commenting as part of my Team Suck duties...

I'm surprised that this didn't do better with the voters. It's perhaps a little over done with the HDR processing (haloing and too much black), and... is that crane really tilting that much... rather unsettling.

Good perspective, beautiful sky.

Interesting subject. Might have benefitted from a perspective correction to ease the trapezoidal effect. The sky is not a positive.

It seems this monster is going to colapse...

I shall be rating this challenge by the following criteria:

1 - Not HDR in my opinion

3 - HDR is way over-done, in my opinion

5 - A reasonable use of HDR, but not a very engaging photo, in my opinion

7 - A reasonable use of HDR, and an engaging photo, in my opinion

10 - A fantastic use of HDR, and an out of this world photo, in my opinion

The perspective distortion really hurts this - the crane looks like it's about to fall over.
