Not much in the way of time or ideas this week, so rummaged in the pantry, found some curly pasta, and shot it with one of my macro lenses.

[Oct. 6th, 2009 07:50:56 PM]

About what I expected from this one. Yes, the funky color is all due to a white balance adjustment ... this was a last minute, quick set up shot of an idea that probably should have been discarded for lack of thought (the noodle was picked simply because it was in my pantry), and would have been had it not been for the DPC golf tourney.

Held the noodle in place with a pair of needle nose ("roach clip") pliers set on a piece of white foam board to bounce the light from my desk lamp off of, with some other foam propped around it to catch the reflected light. Didn't like the white BG, too lazy to reshoot this lame idea, so fooled around with the WB until I got a color I liked, then messed with the color channels to bring some of the yellow back to the noodle. I kind of liked the final effect, but don't disagree with those who thought it just a bit off, or odd, or both.

Lack of contrast is a typical comment I get around here. I tend to prefer softer, less contrasty images in my processing. I think I even dialed the contrast down in this one, either in LR or maybe in Noise Ninja. Just a matter of taste. I liked the way the texture showed up in the noodle in this one (at least in the front part that was in focus), which provided plenty of contrast for me.

I like how it fades, people on this site are starting to piss me off. They seem to want the same old same old.

I found your notes interesting. Kudos for doing your entries the way you like instead of trying to appeal to the masses.

Good idea and you've captured good detail. Biggest thing holding this back is the lack of contrast IMO.

Kind of an odd looking treatment but I like it. Not sure if that look is a lighting effect, or from a post processing adjustment.

Cool idea. My biggest issue with this is all the blue color that the noodle has taken on from the BG. If they were placed much farther apart that would have helped the blue light to not have bounced back onto the noodle. the yellow of the noodle and the blue of the BG give it an almost greenish hue, and that really doesn't look appealing. great focus ans composition though.

It needs more overall contrast.
