Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Low Key IV (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon
Date: Oct 2, 2009
Date Uploaded: Oct 2, 2009

Strobist info - 580 on camera as master. 430 bare in front of him to give me the edge light and a 430 through a shoot through camera right to light the neck. I normally shoot in ettl mode but have been messing with full manual. Worked out well here.

Editing info - Lightroom conversion (I think the light contrast b&w setting), s/h, couple of curves layers, couple of selective color tweaks, usm, crop, resize, usm and another selective color tweak, border.

I love this. The combination of silhouette and a standard light source make this amazing. The border even adds to the effect. I'm starting with a 9, but I may come back and bump this to a 10.

Great studio work here. It's as much a character study as it is anything about the tattoo.

In my opinion this is an excellent example of low key, dark with the right amount of highlights to make it interesting, Nice title as well.

Nice subject, but the cropping of the top of his head is ?and frame is quite distracting to me.

Meets Challenge: 3 of 3.
Technical: 3 of 3.
Emotion: 2 of 3. Just me... but I wish his head was facing a little more down. It would give a sense of weight to that cross he's baring. As it is, he looks more bored, than baring.
Awe: 1 of 1.

Great photo! Really good job.

Also, funny side note. For the longest time, I thought that in the Alanis Morissette song "You Oughta Know" she kept referring to "the cross-eyed bear that you gave to me". I couldn't for the life of me figure out how that went with the rest of the song. ;)
