ok... well it's a couple days into voting... I have not checked my score yet and do not plan on doing so... so I have no clue how it is doing... but here's some details (i'll post a setup pic shortly)... Basically it's a Fisheye lens on a tripod in the back seat... I sat in the back with a wired remote trigger in one and, and the other hand pushed down on the top of the camera to hold the camera/tripod tight to the car... you can't control bumps in the road... they will only have small effects on the lights outside... the tricky part is keeping the camera in the same frame of reference as the car (remember your high school physics??? hahaha I do as I teach it for a living)... this way the interior of the car will be tack sharp (you should see this pic blown up =)

.
the shot is taken in a tunnel in Toronto, Ontario connecting Front street and Lakeshore (goes under train tracks I think) the tunnels have bright white lights (as oppose to orange sodium street lights), this lights up the inside of the car so well... no flash or anything... now, for pics like this YOU MUST HAVE A SUNROOF!!!... wel you don't have to... it just really helps let the light in to properly expose the car...

.
and yes... I did do a shot like this a while back, but that was for a minimal editing challenge, and I always wanted to re-do it with the ability to do some minor editing... all I really had to do to help the shot was to adjust the curves on the part of teh picture you see through the windows (the outside lights) as to get the proper exposure inside, I had to blow them out a bit, but nothing that a little curves adjustment can't fix... =)

.

This is a VERY easy shot!!! if you have a fisheye, you HAVE to try it!

.

thanks to my brother for patiently driving and remaining still for the oh-so-many sots we took that night =)

I'm going to have to try this, I say that every time I see this and your other one. I love the look you get from the long exposure. Superb.

I couldn't vote but this is such a technically perfect photograph, in all aspects.
One question, how smooth is the road? Potholes and speed bumps maketh a good picture not..

What is ultimately most striking is the dramatic detail of the interior. So well thought out and executed. I'm envious.

Really one of the best examples of this kind of photo. Nice job. Is this the tunnel on York Street, or the one recently opened on Simcoe? If York, I tunneled through that thing for ten years on my way to/from my office, and still use it to get to 151 Front.

Nice picture! I find that my eyes focus more on the interior of the car than what's outside, though. I don't know if that's what you intended or not.

Very nice depiction of "space travel," though I think the sun-roof doesn't quite fit my impression of a spaceship flight deck.

Ugh, personally. What's wrong, exactly, with a photograph feeling like a photograph? This feels like some clever dynamic range manipulation and over-smooth rendering of a complex model. I'm sure its all very clever and technical and all, but really ... and the apparent loss of scale is hilarious. Oooh! Look! He's a got a really small hand! So I don't like it.
10/12/2009 12:44:36 PM
That's VERY cool! I hope to see details in the description at challenge end.....8

Great shot! Although, I wish there was more interest on the outside. Just seems I am more drawn to the interior, as apposed to the view. Nice shot though!

Best of the "windshield" window shots, mostly because you went wide but also because you added the "wow" factor with the zoomie light bits. Cool shot.
