 I immediately thought of a "this is not what it seems" type movie. Like it is a secret burial grounds, or people are buying lots in this beautiful subdivision and it turns out it is haunted, or there is a serial murderer on the loose.

WOO HOO~~ thanks so much. I truly thought this was one of my best so I had my fingers crossed all week. What a way to start off the week!! YIPPEE!!!!

It was so cool and foggy and I spoke to people walking on the trail "I wish some deer would come by, but it's the wrong time of day." No sooner did I say that, than here came 4 of them. I managed to get behind this doe and she posed so perfectly. Serendipity rocks.

Well crap. I had no idea that opening it to see it in Microsoft Photo something or other so I could see it big on the screen would change the original when I rotated it to put it in portrait mode. Oh well, it was fun to revel in the glory while it lasted. I had no idea - it never even crossed my mind that would be illegal. Thanks everyone. I'm sure you'll be seeing it in the DQ pink bordered area soon. :~(

I'm still trying to recover the original original. I'm not going down without a fight.

You must retain your original, unedited file (exactly as recorded by your camera), and provide it to the Site Council along with a list of your editing steps within 48 hours of any validation request. Files that have been saved or altered with any editing or transfer software are NOT originals.

bet this was a learning experience for a lot of ppl .. i regularly rotate images which apparently changes the camera data .. didnt realise till this happened to you tho .. fortunately i never got 'caught' .. i dont do it now ..
i love animals especially our dogs .. but wild ones caught on film in their natural environment is really something special .. congrats again on this brilliant image judy .. :)
ps .. you might have the record number of comments on an image ??.. 195 .. thats says buckets for the high esteem you're held in in this site and the brilliance of this shot .. :)x

Judi, This happened to many several years ago too. Sorry about that, losing your "blue" and only ribbon sucks. I hope you do better than me, I haven't been close to a ribbon since.

My heart stopped when I first found out about this just 5 minutes ago. I feel so bad for you Judy I want to cry. :(

When all things come together like the lighting and the deer stepping out into the open area, it could not be more perfect. Don't you just love being in the right place at the right time:-) This is such a beautiful and magical moment captured - we do not have to fear to breath for it might disturb the moment and cause the deer to flee the scene. This moment is forever captured so that anyone who visits can marvel and appreciate it. I love the warm golden colors that envelop the deer in a soft halo. The color just adds to the magical feel of the moment.

:-( I am sorry to hear that you were unable to recover the original, I was hoping that you could get it back. It still resides in my memory as a winner as I am sure it does in many others here at the site.

I hope this is re-instated. However, regardless of the final verdict, this is a fantastic image and worthy of the blue. We all know you didn't "cheat" or "intentionally bypass the rules".

VERY cunning picture and entry. (Alas, one of the many reasons I mostly just do stuff in Irfanview: rotation does not affect the original file. Probably a good opportunity to fine tune your workflow, as Chromedome suggests. But hey, this was a big victory, not least in getting dpc voters to appreciate a fine piece of work).

A world-class image, capturing a great moment, expressing great emotion, telling a story, and you, yes you did it. The quality was recognized by over 125 of some of the harshest critics in the world - many of whom had personal reasons to grade you down so they could do better (hold the fire - not saying people do, just that they have reason to...). Even without the validation of the others, this is an image you can be proud of for years to come. The DQ has absolutely no impact on the quality of the image. Plus, now you KNOW that YOU can get a blue ribbon on DPC. So sorry about the DQ, but the image is worth celebrating all in its own right.

To hell with the DQ! Great - Excellent photograph! It was voted that and that is that! Or is that supposed to be something like this or that which in that case this post would make no sense. Or does it? Sorry about the DQ, but never waiver in your confidence that you can produce a photograph that moves the masses as well as the few.

Boooo Hisssss bad decision by the SC, for this image is truly worthy of the Blue that it earned. You and everybody else know that this image was not altered to try and take advantage of rules, etc. Technicalities suck but they are what they are. Best of luck to you on your next Blue ribbon. when looking thru the subs for this challenge i knew two things immediately, it met the challenge perfectly by containing the essential elements for a great movie 1-sheet - the merit of mystery (which your title associates) and the teaser of a stupendous image. the other is that i knew this was your photograph. the ribbon isn't everything, rest assured, your creation is immortal.

So sorry to hear about your troubles! It happened to me once too when I forgot to save the original and then re-used the card and the original was lost. At least you still have the full sized image so you can get a print made. :)

Beautiful shot. I don't hang out at DPC as much as I'd like to anymore and I was soooo thrilled when Tim told me first thing this morning that you had the blue. Then he dropped the sad news of your potential DQ when he picked me up at the bus stop this evening after the day at work. Aww girl! I hope you can figure out a way to recover the original! Keep your chin up... This'll be validated - we all know you didn't do anything illegal or wrong. It's just a technical matter of proving it (and there's a lot of software out there now that will show the original info). Keep up the great work and I'm sooo happy for you and proud of you! This is a stunningly beautiful scene. Your processing is masterful. Good luck with the validation. I was fortunate to read a warning about rotating an image in Windows viewer. Who would guess, but I tried an experiment and the file size actually changed. Congratulation on the ribbon, I hope you get to keep it.

How you managed to get Boone and Tank to stand and pose in a deer costume is beyond me - but it was clearly worth the effort :- )

This actually looks like a movie poster and the title could be a movie title. That's rare in this challenge. pretty picture, too.

This is another one of the few that looks like a movie poster. It's like someone has taken "Bambi" and turned it into a live action feature. Love the light in the background and what perfect timing on capturing the framed silhouette.

Clearly a great image and lots of negative space - I really can see this as a movie poster. The title isn't half bad either and your image is well matched.
