Challenge: Triptych III (Basic Editing*)
Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG for Nikon
Location: At home, South Africa
Date: Oct 16, 2009
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/2.5s to 1/3s
Galleries: Humorous, Nude
Date Uploaded: Oct 16, 2009

I'm chewing my nails...Must have read the confusing Triptych III forum thread 100 times. Also the Triptych III Rule Change Admin Announcements.

I've had this idea in my head for a long time, at least since the birth of my son in 2003. Probably a bit risqué but no visible nudity so let's see if the humour is appreciated. If it wasn't for DPC it might never have seen the light of day.

1 hour setup, 2 hour shoot with my patient wife and son (he was only called in for the last shot of the three of us together). 3 hours PP.
40 odd shots under a single 100w Halogen above our feet, (I used no hotshoe flash(es), no studio lights, no softboxes, no backdrops etc for this). 25 useful shots, chose 3. The 2nd (middle) pic was the hardest to pull off, showing motion...hehe.
Shot in RAW, B+W
For each image:
1. Output each NEF (RAW) file from Nikon ViewNX.
2. Cropped and Resized.
3. Curves (to remove white bedsheet creases in background) which created horrible blown toes, dreadful hot spots and may cause the entry to bomb.
4. Canvas Resize to create borders.
5. USM.
6. Drag and dropped images onto new rear black background and aligned, left a slightly larger left and right border than top and bottom to "appear" less square.
7. SFW in new 720x720 size and <200kb for this challenge.
8. Pray I did it right and don't get DQ'd!

Best thing about that image is the motion blur in the second image ;-)

hey harvey .. long time no talk .. !!
i saw this in pick your fav pic and opened it up to have another look .. mainly to see the title coz i couldnt rememnber it .. i thought i'd made a comment for sure when i saw it ages ago but apparently i hadnt ..
anyway .. it is a brilliant imaginative and humorous triptych .. i particularly love the motion blur in the middle one .. reckon the toes on the outer feet should'v been curled over tho .. !! .. :)

This is hilarious! It reminds me of a water color my wife and I have on the wall entitled "Menage a Trois." The artist painted a bed from the same perspective as this photo with two pairs of feet pointing up as in the third of your three photos and the face of a Labrador Retriever peeking out from under the sheets between the two pairs of feet and facing the artist/viewer. I've wanted to submit a photo version of that painting for years but have never done it. Really nice. I will comment, however, that it is unfortunate that in picture #2, only one set of feet are moving!

One of my top pics on the challenge. I gave you 9 simply because I didn’t realize that motion blur was intentional. I should’ve spent a bit more time to study the image. Sorry for that.

Nevertheless, congrats with a great score and well deserved placement.

Love the "motion" - I did indeed notice that during voting and appreciated that it was probably intentional! Nicely done and I'm very glad your efforts were rewarded with a great score and honorable mention!

Very fun and creative. Funny that some didn't undestand the blur on the feet in the 2nd pic!!! LOL

Thx all for your votes 21 x 10's! , 43! much appreciated during voting comments, Faves and Wish List. I was hoping to trounce Eyewave but alas my score dwindled in the last 3 days from a 6.9338 to 6.7940. Quite a lot of voters got the motion blur but a lot didn't, I guess they must still be virgins ;) Hehe! The fact that I got more views, comments during voting than the top four and more 10's than 2nd, 3rd, 4th tells me a lot! So do the 1's, 3's and 4's, probably for the blur, hot feet.

love the shots, but I really wish the middle ones weren't moving. 7 anyway, but might have been up to a 9 without the blur.

Hilarious! At first I thought the blur on the toes in the middle frame was accidental.... then I remembered what that 1+1 thing is... very good!

Awesome! I like the humour very much - cheers! Shame about the reflections off the "top" pair of feet in the second frame, but the action blur is nicely suggestive! Expect 9s-10s from the foot-fetish crowd ;-)

Fantastic idea. The middle shot's feet are a little to washed out, but I like that it gets the notion of movement across. I'm giving this a 9, my highest score so far.

great idea and funny. However the execution is holding this back. The lighting on the 2nd picture is blown, sharpness could be better overall. would have liked to see the whole bed frame in the picture and more picture overall.
