Another experiment. This time in the mode of ursula who produces beautiful images like:

and

So much of her wonderful work has been around shape and light so I tried to capture both, as well as intense fall colors. I imagine this will not score well but I really think it is pretty cool.

Handheld camera. Raised camera straight up and shot image part way through lifting camera. The details of how I shot this are as such:

I found a section of the woods next to my house where the leaves in the background were brightly illuminated and the tree trunks were backlit so that they appeared dark (for added contrast). I hand held the camera and bent my arms and head down towards the ground. I raised my arms and head up at a pace that would go from 'straight down' to 'slightly above horizontal' over about 1 second. I took about 10-15 shots at several locations, trying to frame the image with a couple of tree trunks. I fired the shutter part way through raising the camera so that the motion would be continuous. I had tried some other options where the shot was fired at the beginning of raising or at the end, but I always ended up with slight horizonal motion that ruined the effect I was after.

I used the smallest aperture I could get and selected a few shutter speeds (all fired in manual) that would give approriate lighting).

Overall i took about 50 shots to get the image I wanted.

Converted from RAW using CS4 RAW converter with adjustments for hue/saturation.

In CS4 - removed a series of small pixel dust spots. Cropped.
Adjusted Hue/Saturation, Curves, Selective Colors, Noise Ninja.
Resized to 1280, Adamus Sharpening, resize for web.
Added border.

Post Challenge Thanks for the comments during and after the challenge. I guess my image was a bit too sharp and may not have come across fully as motion. I will need to drink more coffee and shake my hands a bit more next time ;-)

Of all the vertical, fall color abstracts in the challenge, this one is my favorite. Very bold and powerful, with nice range.
