Mt Taranaki, NZ
Driving all day across the country, we spotted this as we were about 10km out of town. It was late and we wanted to make our hotel before dark. I wanted to shoot it there & then but there was too many buildings in the foreground, so I kept heading toward town hoping there would be a clearing, but their wasn't. For a moment we were so tired I thought "nevermind I'll shoot it tomorrow" but then I decided to have one last chance and took a side street just before the main street but it seemed to go on forever (just like this description). Eventually we came over the top of a crest & found this view.

With the last few rays of sunlight hitting the top I managed to get off about 3 sets of bracketed shots. For the rest of our stay in the area the sky was completely overcast and we were told by the locals that it is very rare to see the summit at all, let alone this clear.

I guess the lesson is never let a chance go by!

7 images combined in Photomatix
Then in PS a touch of Topaz adjust, levels, curves and NI
Cloned some small telephone lines & poles.

Read in the forums about the Adamus sharpening, so tried that.
Loved the border on so tried that too.

Woohoo - long time between drinks....thnx everyone.

here is the first of the 7 captures (no +- exposure stops) converted to jpg & resized.

While you've ribboned in a free study, you know I haven't done that yet! This is stunning you sure do get around also!

Wonderfully postprocessed, and a great shot to start with, of course. Making that background purplish was a good idea.

I completely agree, Congratulations on the ribbon. I have been down there a few times & I don't think I have ever seen the mountain that clear.

Congratulations. Funny story, I was actually looking at this one last night, before the voting ended, while listening to a brass choir playing Gabriel's Oboe. It was a perfect scene for the piece and I thought, this should be on the front page. I was right. :)

Stunning view. Foreground feels too bright to me, and a little washed out. Overall the whole scene is a tad muddy in the way it's rendered. I'd love to see the original.

Almost fits the title, but you are missing the dinosaurs. That would really be cool if you had some dinosaurs in this scene. Hey! I know! You could do it with PhotoShop! Oh, yeah... Darn editing rules.
