Thanks for the nice comments and the ribbon.

It is not Dubai :-) but I am glad it looks like it. It was shot in the desert of Ica, 200 miles south from Lima, a few minutes after sunset. We arrived too late (5 minutes before sunset) so there was not enough time to make the correct lighting setup and only a softbox from the right was used.

The post processing could have been better to see more detail on the sand, and to increase the depth of color, but I had problems with the lap top, the card reader, etc.. so I had to submit the image almost as it looks straight off the camera.

Super special thanks to:
1. My brother Andy ( senor_kasper) for joining in this one day adventure to the desert of Ica,
2. The model, my friend Fernando and his wonderful falcon.
3. Mr Damin Awad, President of the local Islamic Association, who provided the authentic clothes (except my beach sandals that are not Fernando's size :-) )

One note:

The Eqall (the round black thing on his head) the loops should not be separated at all. its like when some has his shirt untucked on one side and not on the other. or something like that.

The beard style and the model catches the Arab form. Well Done!!

Hi Alfredo, congratulation on the very well deserved ribbon,
I could tell he is not Arab by the way he is adjusting the head ware, do you know there are many ways to adjust it?!!
The color of the '' Ghotra '' changes from a country to another, the way and dare I say style varies from a generation to another. You can even in some countries differentiate between different families from the way they do it :)

I like the strobing in here, I am not sure if you saw David Hobby's shooting in Dubai, it is very similar.
Very well done and congratulation my friend.

P.S, Please ask Mr. Damin where is the white trousers that usually goes under? ƒΒΊ

Very nice lighting. I prefer the manner in which Strobist used a strong keylight to add to the dynamism, but this is very good. Great job.

Not to take away from Melethia's accomplishment, but I was really hoping this would garner the Blue. 6.84 isn't even close to a respectful score - this should have been in the mid-7's at least. I hope there were no low anti-middle eastern votes thrown your way.

Hehe, I was pretty sure that he was not really an Arab so I did supsect this was not in any Arabian country, but I know that falconry is a very important part of that culture. Congratulations on your ribbon.

Hopefully a lot of folks will have gained something from this, as I'm betting most aren't aware of the importance of falconry in some of the Arabic countries. Beautifully photographed!

Most deserved ribbon for this great shot brother. If people only knew all it took to produce and even enter this image, LOL; it will be an everlasting memory.

Lawrence of Arabia was the first thing that came to my mind too. I loved the lighting on the man and the sky is magnificent. Congrats on the red ribbon!

Magnificent portrait -- I like all the diagonal lines and the balance with the sunset (or sunrise?).

The man in classic Arabian garb complete with a hunting hawk and desert sands so invokes the romantic imagery of "Lawrence of Arabia". Lighting is wonderful on your subject but I daresay you could move in a little closer such that he dominates the left 1/4 portion of the frame - show us more of this character not less! As it is having him stand just a few feet away from the left edge and the great expanse of desert & sky makes it look like the character is just lost in that great expanse of space rather than him being a vital part of it. A high above average shot but bringing us closer to and making the main subject a vital part of the environment would greatly increase the visual appeal of this composition and move it into the exceptional category.

IMO I would have preferred this without the flash...personally I don't like flash flairs in pictures...but overall a good capture

Now this is a very cool photo - I love that the bird is looking at the man as he looks away. Great scene with the sand dune and setting sun. The only thing that seems off is the lighting from the front - somehow it makes the photo surreal in a not so good way like a movie set or something. But thanks for a different scene!

Intriguing. I can't figure out what he's holding (aside from the bird). Love the simplicity of it. 8

I want to love this shot but I can only get to liking it. I so want to see the bird better and the horizon is all wonky - can't do much about that in the desert can you? Good work.
