Some people call it the Grand Canyon of the east. If you've seen the Grand Canyon you'd laugh at that. While it may not hold a candle to the Grand Canyon, Letchworth State Park in NY is an impressive site. The Genesee river flows north through it all the way up through Rochester and to Lake Ontario.

This image is of the lower falls. There are also middle and upper falls. Much of the trail work in the park was completed during the depression by the CCC. The park also was were Mary Jemison was held captive by the Iriquois indians for some time.

I "shot" this image early on a Saturday morning, which was the first day of shot gun season around here. As I hiked to this location I heard many shots. Hopefully, the hunters were as lucky as I was.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I am especially pleased with the thoughtful/critical comments of my DPC hero Bear_Music. I will see about burning the pathway a little to decrease it's impact.

I'm hoping this will be a new personal best for me.

This is using all the tools to the best possible advantage - lovely shot to begin with (and I do like the composition quite a bit) then fine work with the processing. Congrats on the top ten in a very tough challenge and the new PB!

I keep coming back to this one. It has an unusual power to it. I have a sense of "not liking" it bcause the walkway and top of the wall seem too bright for the scene (I think that's what I'm reacting too, but I'm not sure), but at the same time there's an overalls ense of etched tonality that is compelling me.

It may just be that I feel like it's divided too neatly into equal wedges, I donno.

Anyway, I'm bumping from 7 to 8 now :-) For me, 8's a very high score, especially on a landscape.

What a delightful blending of texture and colours in this beautifully balanced whole. The movement in the water, anchored by a single tree which leads the view to the Falls. The rough hewn stone wall, whose line leads the view to the old steep stone stairs and up into the Autumn tinged hillside offset by the towering cliffs on the left with their green crown of firs reaching down again to the water. This is superb, one of my definite favourites. I would love to walk this path and be renewed in spirit with this place.

A strong composition. Love the textures, the s curve. A very well processed shot.
I like how my eye is led through the shot to the mist in the distance. Nice work here

Serious tonemapping here, but with all the texture in the stone and bare trees I think it works well. Very 3-dimensional.

Quite different and like the weird sense of scale it presents.

Nice dramatic shot. I would have tried to remove that sign in the top right as the walkway draws my eye there. Maybe you should have taken the shot at the base of the stairs to avoid that muddy footpath as the stairs are much more interesting, maybe even see some more of the waterfall.
