A bighorn ram of about 8 years of age in the Big Thompson Canyon. This ram sports a green ear tag (not visible in the image). That means he has been introduced to the area by the Division of Wildlife. The purpose of his introduction is to provide hybrid vigor to an inbred bighorn sheep herd.

After the challenge: I see there are a lot of low votes. Those must be DNMC votes. That is very odd, as there is more "science" in the photo than most. Guess it needed to be a staged scene with props to be considered "science" by some.

Sorry, I don't think "science" when I see a picture of an animal... although it's definitely a cool picture.

would have liked to see curves applied to this...the ram seems quite dull in tone/color

Excellent crisp capture with much detail. The colours of the rock match the colours of the animal providing a nice blend-in. The strength is evident in the body stance and the interplay of shadows is a nice plus as well.

It is a form of science and a good photo, well done! It's a shame the color of the background and the big "sheep" are almost similar. Some difference there would enhance the photo, but that's not your fault. A very beautifull animal and a splendig capture!

Don't know if this is truly hybrid by genetic mutation - but still a great capture, focus and light is right on! 8
