Inside a local hamburger diner, winner of awards over the years, a window from the kitchen looks out to the customer tables. Heads enter and leave the frame randomly. Tried to capture the girl, but when the guy peeked out with this concerned expression, it seemed to imply the middle of a story. Needed high ISO for the indoor darkness. Framed news items aren't hung exactly level, which throws everything a little off balance, echoing the ambiguity of the situation. Title from the "Best burgers" piece under the window. Maybe not the classic entry for a high free study score, but I rather like the color, ligjt, and candid moment.
Note after challenge: Thank you all for the wonderful comments. The black thing at the top is a sports jacket, but showing the logo would have unbalanced the image. This was not posed, sort of indoor street photography, and the guy only glanced out a second or so - so I was glad to get what I could. |

This isn't the ordinary sort of shot. The interest is concentrated in the window, and then the surrounding things creep into view. I also like the connection with the title in both the window and the poster. Good find. |

Quirky and unique. I like this a lot. There is just a teeny bit of perceptible tilt which is made visible because of all the right angles. |

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: Great candid image, excellent colours and bags of interest - makes me wonder what I would see to the left and right of your image.
Critical stuff: I do wish the focus on the face was a little crisper and that the black thing at the top of the frame was either not there or made more sense.
Overall: An interesting shot which I have been pleased to have found. |

i like this. the colours are beautiful and the guy peaking through the window gives it character. if that woman's head was not there, it would be even better. wall hangable better. |

Interesting how the window/mirror juxtaposes with the other pictures ... or is it a photo that does. I like the mystery. |

The composition is wonderful and I love the expression in his eyes. I find the black blob at the top a little disturbing, but not much. |

A good photo can tell a story. I think this is a good photo. |
