I just find this so appealing. The varying and layered textures are captured so nicely and the square format really suits it.

Yet another image I was much too harsh on when doing my first pass voting. This is a wonderful image. Well composed... great detail... just wonderful all over. Reminds me of the Victorian high country after last summers fires... actually wouldn't be surprised if it actually is a photo from up there... anyway... initially gave it a 7, but now think it deserves a 9. Well done with a great image.

I love the comparison between the two. I wish you had taken a step or two to the right so that the tree wouldn't touch the chimney. I wonder what this would look like as a highish contrast BnW.

Yes............Balanced, works.....not sure on the border, and some additional grass could have helped a little on balance.........

tough time of year for outdoor images, but you have made the most of the trees in the background without leaves and I really like the tree to the right of the chimney.

Okay......10. I got to a point with this image after staring at it that I would *try* to find even the smallest little thing wrong with it. I failed. This is just wonderful. My choice as the best image in this challenge. I love it. Terrific wrok, and best of luck in your finish.

great concept. i think a narrower DOF would have mottled the trees in the background giving almost a studio back drop look. Still my favorite 8.

I love how the manmade chimney and the natural tree echo each other as skeletons now, remnants of antiquity which once were mighty but have now become different, quieter ghosts of their former selves. They are still holding on and there is a magnificence and life lesson in that quiet strength. The natural frame of the consistent grass without definition and the backdrop of the late Autumn almost blended together trees add notes to this as well and create that sense of moody isolation. It is almost as if the tree is reaching out to touch the chimney, recognising their sad commonality and kinmanship. I think your photograph is beautiful.

Like this subject; makes me wonder about what was once there attached to the fireplace. Something grand, I think. I might do some selective burning to give a bit more depth to the background, though the grayness of it does suit a skeletal theme.

i am half-hearted with the grass in the foreground, i am not sure whether to like it or not, but the background and the tree looks terrific!
