oil, ink and water.

Thank you everybody for your nice comments and appreciation!
I was expecting a good place from the first day but the blue ribbon is really something!!

As most of you guessed, this is squashed oil, water and blue ink in a glass pot placed on matte glass table, lightning from below. Quite difficult to get a proper image; I was close to abandon the idea when I realized that more water was needed + it should be squashed quite strongly in order to get nice bubbles. This is the best image from like 500 photos I've made that day.

Editing: quite simple, raw conversion then curves, levels, color balance, spot editing and cloning, usm and save for web.
Below is another outtake from that day.

Just saw this on 1x.com too! Well done - to get a blue here and published there is very good going. I'm not sure I'll ever manage such a feat.

Few people asked what do I mean by 'squashed oil' and, as i'm not an English native speaker, here are a few more details: by squashed oil I mean, basically, that all 3 'ingredients' - oil, ink and water - should be quite strongly shaken/mixed/agitated with a stick or something else. By doing this you get lots of small bubbles which immediately start 'moving' and then getting back together and so on...
Hope this is quite clear. :)

Immiscible liquids... Probably oil and water...

Edit: Color makes me wonder on this one... Is it just inverted on the yellow channel, or is it dishsoap?

Can't wait til this contest is done to see what this is and how you did it. I didn't want to guess bubbles, so I'll go with different liquids merged together.

Looks like oil and water squashed behind a piece of glass or even a petrie dish. The clarity is amazing. And the color gradient within each circle is spectacular.

Oil and water, in something, in some liquid.
Great composition with a mix of sharpness (for details) and softness (for curves and color).
Lightening is really nice. I really love the reverse reflection in the right bubble.
