Another model shoot with Ais

Thanks to Emily for the makeup, Suzy for the styling and Lutchenko for getting in the way!

[Jan. 9th, 2010 06:19:43 PM]

Found some bandage wrapped it round her hands then used it to wipe the makeup off her face from the shoot. Half a sink full of water on her head to get rid of all the hairspray and job done.

Lit with two soft boxes at 45 degrees to one side.

I could not decide on the colour or this version. I still prefer the colour one, but I went with the majority decision. Did I make the right decision

Yeh what a result I got very worried on the last day as the harsh last minute voting that appeared to hit everyone dropped this from 7.16 to 6.95

Thanks for all the positive comments

I like this version better. I think her skin looks better in this version vs. color one

Very interesting use of lighting. It works well for the subject.

Congrats on producing such a great image and for the blue. Regarding B&W vs color, the one you entered is the much more dramatic of the two.

I love this. The eyes and hair specially make it. The dark or light colour I think depends on the mood you want. I like both.

I agree ... the colour version is too pretty for the subject matter ... WHAT a POWERFUL image it is in monochrome ...

Congratulations ... I would be DAMN proud to have produced that image!

The monotone picture has far more impact. The color is too pretty and you can see the makeup, the monotone is better.

Excellent shot! Congratulations. I like the intensity in her eyes. Who in their right mind could give this only a one. They must have had the scale reversed.

Chris, CONGRATULATIONS! You are fast becoming my new FAVORITE portrait photographer! Wow! As far as color vs. black & white /sepia, I think you have a case where you couldn't go wrong. Either one would have won top honors. I tend to be like you tho and for some reason generally prefer color photography, but I don't know in this case -- I think you did pick the right one. It is strong and AMAZING!

Arent' you glad you went with the majority decision? The color version is a great image but IMHO the sepia is the most powerful and telling image. Congrats!

Well, you could go either way, I also think the colour version is very good, but the sepia one is excellent. I think you would have ribboned with either :)

Nice work, great portrait!

Congratulations!

Intresting, it looks like that the female boxer beat the male boxer on front page.
Just a fun coincident, of course the photo of the red ribbon boxer is great, too.

Great shot, tells the story. Comp is very good, B&W makes the shot. Perhaps a bit much 'dirt' on her, but still one of my favorites.

Another great Boxer photo. This one by far the best! Great eyes, they really draw you in, and the grime on the skin and wrap makes this look authentic. 10.
