Vote #182 was a "1". Otherwise, voters have been generous.

[Jan. 10th, 2010 09:53:49 AM]

Lots of votes and views in this challenge. Must be a function of the relatively small number of entries.
Validation notice arrived this morning Jan. 10. Thanks, SC and admins!
Those who have commented have been very kind. Some very excellent constructive criticism was offered. Thanks to all. I suspect this image will finish in the top 5, but probably not the blue ribbon.

Thanks to all for the kind comments and generous votes. Lots of votes and views.... still coming in, but a bit slower now.

[Jan. 12th, 2010 09:49:51 AM]

Lower votes came in overnight bringing my score down to 7.0900. At the high water mark at about 80 votes, the score was 7.3200. Overall, I'm very pleased. Vote #253 was a "3", but that comes with the territory.

On the issue of blacker tones and more contrast, I did pay much attention to Ansel Adam's Zone method. There are some all black pixels. And, there are some all white pixels. In general, i'm somewhat reluctant to push contrast out more to increase the tails of the histogram in the extreme areas where detail is lost. But, I think the image could use a few more black blacks, even if there is a trade-off. It's good advice.

I hope I get it - moon meets match in mountain? If not, then mountain is too overbearing for my tastebuds.

I would like a bit more contrast, especially in the trees. But a nice shot.

A nice A.Adams quality w/ good detail, exposure and tonal range. Not having a "full" moon here makes this more attractive, I feel. 9

One of the two 10's in the challenge I've given.

I love the conversion, and the red channel processing that left the sky dark really improves the moon. Perfect composition, wonderful contrast and just a great shot.
