One light to the left and behind, and a reflector to the right and in front of him. I used a smoke machine for the first time and really like it! I like the "blues" feel that this image has. The is week one in my Portrait A Week for 2010. Thanks for looking. Image was taken about 3 weeks ago.

I like the light and with just a glimpse of light in the front. i am not sure I like the main character so centered though.

Fabulous shot. I really like everything about it. My one critique is very minor: his eyes look like they are just closed like you caught him blinking. Do you have a similar one when he's subtly looking down or away? If so, it might be interesting to see that. Technically, superb. Can't wait to see more of yours.

The smoke adds a moodiness to the shot that works well. I like the lighting.

Very cool shot! I love the dramatic lighting and your first use of the smoke machine was a huge success! I gotta get me one of those! I agree with hajeka about the light on the fingers, perhaps they could be brought out a little in processing.

Wonderful mood and light. Perhaps the right could use a tiny bit more light, the black fingers seems to come from nowhere (but perhaps it's just my monitor).

This is a WOW image. You nailed the lighting and the smokes adds to the mood, but what makes it for me is how he's gazing off to the right, sort of towards the light. It's as if he's searching for something by looking somewhat towards the light but cannot fully commit. Well done.

As you said, it's very "blue-sy"... mysterious and melancholic. Love the expression in the model's face, it seems like he's in a trance! Adding to favorites. =)

I have question though: Are we supposed to take new pictures a week or submit a picture a week? I am new to this group, so won't know.

Hello.....glad you are joining the group. In my experience, I like to try to take a new picture every week for the challenge, and then submit it. I look forward to seeing your work. :O)

The light and smoke is excellent. Some people out there are probably rejoicing that you made accordian playing to be very cool :D

The setup, lighting and pose here are wonderful - he looks more boy than man, though.
A Portrait of Dorian Accordian?

Nice shot, has a very polished feel to it, looks like it belongs in an add for some expensive clothing item.

The way the light splits the musicians face is very interesting. I also like how the light pours over the instrument. Excellent control of the light here.

I like the interaction of the smoke with the instrument, gives me a sweet hint of the musical tones.

Loving the smoke. It does give an illusion that he's in a dark and dingy jazz club or something like that. You nailed the lighting. It's a wonderful image.
