Challenge: Signature Style (Advanced Editing VII*)
Collection: Mexico 2010
Camera: Nikon D700
Lens: Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical IF for Nikon
Location: Taxco, Mexico
Date: Jan 8, 2010
Galleries: Emotive, Street
Date Uploaded: Jan 10, 2010

I was lucky to be in a small Mexican town Taxco when this challenge was announced. Street candids are my favorite genre, and while I only had a couple of hours to myself and my camera, I was able to capture this little moment. Hope you like it.

ps. Thank you all for the wonderful comments and favs, and thanks vawendy for a beautiful bluebird!

oh, several commenters expressed concern for the little guy's well being. No worries, he is ok, they did not "send him off" downhill, in fact they were very careful carting him back and forth to really get the first "feel" for biking. I really enjoyed that scene.

a few of words on the "signature style". I don't have it in the obvious sense, I think. The lack of guesses shows it. I don't have a subject, locale, or a certain post-processing trick I use over and over again. But still this photo has several traits which I think you can find in various combinations in many of my photos, especially more recent, especially the ones I myself like the most: a street scene, kids acting naturally, B&W, smile, sympathy, and yes, people's backs :).

Usually I don't give bluebirds when people are in the top ten, but I think this is a truly spectacular shot -- it simply has to have a bluebird award!

Did not guess this as you, but thinking about it now, I should have done. Very nice to see this in the top ten.

I really love this shot. So genuine and sweet that the other kids are helping the younger one ride the bike. I love that it's in B&W as well. Very emotive for some reason. I don't like the precarious position of the bike though. It looks like he's about to get a rough initiation tumbling down a hill or street before he learns how to control the bike. That also contributes to the rawness display of life depicted here. 8

Too much bike and a big hill! This is delightful. I'm thinking it could be Lev's but I'm not sure where he's been the past week!
