oh .. just came back to have another look and noticed all the 'roz' comments ..
its funny ppl thought this was mine, coz i've never succeeded in catching one of these little guys flying .. when they've jumped when the flash fired the pic i'd get would show some legs hanging down at the top of the image .. nothing ever like this .. only ever got bees flying and not that great either .. :)

far out shot .. i know how difficult this would'v been to get .. nearly miraculous .. i'm thinking its a long legged fly .?. i've found that some of them dont move when the flash fires and some of them jump .. bit like humans probably .. some more wired than others .. !!

Greetings from the Critique Club!
Initial impression: Had Roz not entered that Robberfly shot, I would peg this as one of hers. Gave you a 6 during voting.
Technical: Great capture at 1/60th, and with a fairly big lens to boot. Very well done, especially as insects can be quite skittish! Interesting texture on the leaf, too, and nice bit of bug bokeh. Say that 4 times fast :-)
Artistic: Nice ambient light, OK comp, lots of room for bug to fly into. Extra kudos for not only shooting handheld but also doing minimal (if any) pp. Hats off to you!
Overall: If this is how a handheld shot of a bug in flight of yours looks, then Roz may have to look to her laurels :-) Great work, keep it up!
Feel free to pm me with any questions,
Susan |

This is a pretty amazing shot. In flight with as much detail as you got, I have been trying to get master the macro bug shots since the challenge a while back and have been quite frustrated getting bugs in flight.
I believe this shot is Roz. |

Excellent macro work. Outstanding use of narrow DOF coupled with amazing detail and focus on subject. This one a capture in flight. Bumping up to a 9 roz |

Verrry good! I know how hard it is to catch one of those little fellows in flight -- especially with this clarity. Nice job! |

I'd say Roz or Greg, but it's not close up enough! |
