USMC Corporal Cahill, a UH-1Y Huey crew chief with HMLA-367, observes the surroundings of the Afghanistan desert while patrolling the battle space. Helmand Province, Southern Afghanistan, December 2009.

_________

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I'm grateful for all the support.

A little about the title. HMLA-367 (Marine Light/Attack Helicopter Squadron 367) is the name of the unit, the squadron nick name is Scarface. They've done and continue to do terrific work out here.

As seen in my book "Actuality"

Wow. This in an intense shot. I can't imagine being in your spot or the spot of the subject. It's such a thrill to get a glimpse into the lives of others. Thanks for sharing.

Splendid environmental portrait - the 'placement' of the other helicopter in the upper, the blur of the blade above it, and the composition to place the working end of the weapon in the lower left and the face of the soldier in the upper right provides an almost perfect balance of subjects

Hmmm... helicopter, wide angle, dry dusty landscape below... I suspect this is Cory. But it's not a girl in the photo... :-) Nicely done.

Nice military shot. Reminds me of a gun they had during the Viet Nam war called "Puff"

I don't understand the relation of the title to the shot. Over my head. He's far too handsome for that name and very brave. It is a good image.

This is truly soemthing you dont see often..at least not the average person. Thanks for sharing and making this a good picture. Woudl love to know some story line behind this person/gunship/carrier and hopefully that he has never had to press that things botton. bet it beats the 10 frames per second of Nikon or Canon. 8

I think it's the far-away look in your subject's eyes...amost a serene look in the face of something that would absolutely TERRIFY me! LOL Even the peaceful position of his hand placement. It's as though he's at "peace" somehow for that moment in time and you've captured it. Love it!

Very, very cool stuff. I suspect I know who took this, because I've admired similar shots in the past. I'm not sure I'd have the kahonas (sp?) to be hanging out by that opening :)
