We got a few inches of snow last week (the forecast called for flurries), and there's a fox that lives in the woods below my house. This isn't him. ;-)

It's the same fox I entered a few years ago from the Beardsley Zoo. I went to the zoo specifically to try some snow shots, and the fox was unexpectedly cooperative. I've never seen her moving around before, and the enclosure is VERY difficult for photography. Even in this shot I couldn't quite blur out the fence completely, so I had to dodge some light gray stripes and clone the edges in spots. They're still visible if you know where to look. I would have preferred a more open crop, but it made the fence too obvious for some of my Site Council compadres and I had to crop it. Bummer.

Other editing: Convert from RAW, Levels, Curves, USM, Dodge & Burn, shift yellow channel toward red, light Gaussian Blur and Fade to soften the fur, light Noise Ninja, and a little saturation on the tail.

Fabulous! I think photographing in a zoo or other 'manmade environment' while still making it look 'wild' is a separate accomplishment in itself.

Then, the image. Lovely!

Shannon!! That fox just amazes me. It's like he's inches away and he's looking right through me. What a stupendous shot. I just wish he weren't enclosed in a zoo. :(

You got a real nice picture here. Wild foxes like nothing to do with humans so you were fortunate to get this shot.
