The above headline is accurate, sadly enough.
I have mixed emotions myself about this photo.
Or rather about having taken it in the first place.

It was Father's Day. The man was a father.

I think this was right outside my neighborhood in Gaithersburg. On Great Seneca Hwy right?

I find it interesting that some would question whether or not this picture would be published in a newspaper when it obviously was, I understand your hesitation in taking and using this picture, but I still say good job.

The newpaper would most likely crop the guy in the white t-shirt out of the picture, the bottom grassy area and the road sign on the right. Is the white thing the body or just debris? Also, this photo doesn't say body found to me. Maybe a headline investigators seek clues in local hit and run. Just a thought.

CSI Type stuff. Great! Sorry for the guy. Great capture.

whahahahahaha, you're texture is great. Although some people won't appreciate it. 7 for making me laugh out loud.

on second thought, i suddenly start to wonder whether this is real after all?? It looks like some number scattered over the ground, it would be gruesome if it were real...

Too general of a picture.:
a- Okay, a man was hit, now why am I seeing numbers in the grass? Add to your title perhaps - "Local man dead after hit-and-run, investigation underway"
b- Crop to something specific like just the left hand side with the surveyor or to some of the numbers, give me a place to focus.

I'm sceptical that I would ever see a shot like this in an American newspaper. The headline, yes.

Perhaps this isn't for an American paper?
I truly hope this is a set-up and you aren't exploiting an actual tragedy for the sake of a contest. I realize this is a photojournalism challenge but some boundaries shouldn't be crossed.

On to the critique. The composition is odd. I'm not sure why the subjects are posing for you this way. One is apparently a cop (what is he holding up?) but the other guy is pretty random. Is he the one who found the body? If this were real, why would these people agree to pose like this, as if you asked them to say cheese, with a corpse lying 10 feet away? At any rate, they are out of focus. My biggest question is, what is the function of all those numbers?

LUCKY. You got to a crime scene, but your composition is poor here. I would suggest either cropping the body out (the partial streetsign in the top corner is distracting and the feet are already cut off anyway) or next time choosing to move your focus to include only the cop and the body so both are fully visible.

This looks pretty authentic to me, sad event, but perfect for the challenge. I can so see this in a newspaper - 9

Is it just me or is that a ton of evidence markers? Good title, pretty good photo.

That a lot of markers !
