This cormorant was not 30 feet from the from door. I hope that counts as in the garden... but I guess to be fair, If you live on the coast with a cliff behind you... this is as good a garden as it gets.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are of a general softness in the shot.

Technically I think there are a couple of areas to improve on in this shot. First it feels soft, a little more sharpening would help but of course you need to be careful not to over sharpen as that can ruin a shot. Second, as has been noted already, this is slightly over exposed. Leaving these issues aside, composition is good.

Artistically I like the pose of the bird, it feels interesting and not a bland "bird on a rock" shot. For more interest perhaps experiment with crops that do not include the whole bird - for example, a square crop of the right hand part of the frame.

In summary a good shot that was let down a little by the technicals and also from some voters mistrust that this is anywhere near a garden :)

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

Nice capture. It is however OE by at least 1 stop. There is some CA going on in your glass. Try using curves in PS to improve the image's contrast.

-garden +bird. Great pose! Background/framing works well too.

a little over exposed. Maybe bring it down a bit. It looks salvageable. Cool find, though!

Lucky you! Super portrait of this cormorant in its typical wing drying pose.
