The bird feeder was only introduced to the garden a day or two before the challenge was announced. The robin is actually sitting on a small wire tray for putting seed and meal worms in, and has some home made bird cake in its beak. Definitely the back garden!

Some outtakes:

Red ribbon - that is quite unexpected! Thank you to everyone for your comments - all much appreciated.

Really great shot Sara, my fav bird. We have one that comes at 7:30am and 4:30pm everyday for a feed-up. Saw a Redwing the other day, they like a raw carrot chopped a bit or apple. ;)

What a wonderful shot! It's so funny seeing that labeled as a robin. It so different than our robins. ()

Hey Sara - congrats on the Ribbon ! The snow makes a lovely backdrop.

Thinking on it, if you got a red ribbon for a red fronted robin . . maybe you should've held out until a Blue tit came along ?

:- )

Go Sara! A garden shot is tough to get in the winter, but this one captures the right feel for the season.

Great shot, almost flawless. I have a thing against feeding wildlife despite the harshness of the weather and the meager pickings they have at this time of year. It is inmho cheating taking such a photo. However the little bird could just be stealing from an outdoor bin? Still the image is well taken and the contrast between colourful bird and dreary winter is shown to it's full benefit here. Composition is great. Focus excellent.

sooo you have a trash can in your garden? :) at least it looks like the bird is standing on one, and I'd say this is not a garden but a city park. But on the other hand nice sharpness of the subject and the white grayish background contributes the colorful bird to stand out, also the frame fits nice, 8

Obviously a great foreground, but the background is well balanced too. Just enough DOF to see what it is, but not so much to distract.
