I bought a hamster which turned out to be pregnant and gave birth to pups a couple of weeks later. Here's one of them in a last ditch effort to participate in this challenge.

Nothing special with editing,

curves, levels, sharpening, contrast, highlights/shadows

Post challenge:
Well its a new PB for me, so for that i'm happy. In the last two days of voting my score dropped significantly, was 6.62 with over 100 votes, ended 6.51 so a little irritated about that. Its a step forward so i'm happy and can't complain. I'm very delighted with all the comments thank you very much.

Many of you assumed this took hard work to keep the hamster still. Truth be told, it wasn't hard at all. He actually kept trying to sleep by tucking his head in, the real challenge was constantly poking him to have him peek his little head out. He got a big carrot after this shoot :)

By the way the hamster's name is Master Splinter

I thought of doing this with my hamster, but I don't think she'd like it.

This is an excellent photo. How did you get him to co-operate and stay in the egg?

lol that's just cute!
How'd you ever get the mouse to stay in the egg?

Fun to look at and the composition is nice too.

There were some great photos in this challenge and most were very good (IMHO). This was one of the four I gave my hightest score. This one I would like to have bumped to one of the rare 10s that I give if only the focus was a little sharper. I love this photo and would be surprised if it doesn't get a ribbon and annoyed if it's not in the top 10. Well done!

Sweet! I think I'd like to see the whole egg in focus (but hey, it's your photo). I assume this required some mouse wrangling -- and that no animals were harmed in the making of this photograph.

I think this photo gives a funny twist to a hatching egg. I believe countless hours must have been spent to try to make sure the hamster stays in the egg along with the egg shell hat.
Bravo!

not sure if that's a mouse or a hamster, but i'll pretend it's a hamster since i have a huge fear of mice...haha... either way, great shot!!
