Ok, details.

Thought I'd use the new chick props we got for Easter shots. Put the chick out there with a broken eggshell. Take the shot on white seamless at f/11 lit from above with a 4x6 softbox. 1 light to get the background to f5.6. Edit the shot. Upload and call it "Just Hatched".

Look on the internet to get more egg ideas. See a shot of an eggshell with cross-hatch marks as if a chick had been counting the days. Cool. Add counting marks to egg shell. Re-take shot. Upload and call it Escape.

Get 2 comments that call it un-original. Throw hands up in the air and give up.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Thanks for the Red ribbon and all the lovely comments. I'll try and remember this is the internet and there are as many opinions as there are people.

Thanks all,
Tony

The egg is a little bright. Maybe its my screen but it blends in with the background too much for my taste...

I remember a Frasier episode where Frasier was allowed to secretly view marketing research being conducted about his show. In a room full of people, *one* person said they didn't like his radio show, everyone else loved it... Frasier obsessed about the one negative comment. You scored a win with a lot of people, don't take the handful of negative comments to heart.

And if we're keeping score on originality, let's start counting the long exposure beach scenes; pet portraits; tone-mapped portraits of old people; black and white with a splash of color; use of photos within the photo; posed mice; liquid droplets/splash photos; etc etc etc...

You're doing fine, shoot what inspires you... even if the inspiration comes while surfing the web and seeing someone else's attempt.

Love this, it's so very well done. Congrats on your ribbon, Tony.

Well originality certainly isn't a requirement around here but if that was actually a goal then why on earth would you search the internet for "egg ideas" and use one of them?

Nice.... but shouldn't the title be "eggscape"?

03/10/2010 10:55:37 AM
I agree it is un original, the language which the chick has marked inside the egg is known, you should've invented your own language .. shame on you :)
Man even if this idea has been presented before, you really got the best out of it, I like it .. I didn't vote this challenge, but if I did, It would've been a straight 10.
P.S, Like if all the poses in photography haven't been used millions of times before :)
Cheers mate,

Very humorous photo! I like that the chick is oof due to the depth of field. I just tink it is so out of focus to make it not be a part of the scene. I would recommend a smaller aperture.

wonderful!!! i'd love to see the chicken a bit more sharper...

Cute idea. I think less separation between the egg and the chicken might have helped. My eyes keep jumping back and forth between the two areas of the image.
