Challenge: Color Studio Portrait (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Brisbane, Australia at home

This is my 6 year old Daughter. High-key is the intention and was taken in front of a window at home with a sheet of white polycarbonate just behind her. Only natural light was used.
I tried many times to get a natural expression and in the end I began to ask her questions about things that I knew made her click - like "Who's your best friend" etc, and I got some beautiful, natural looks from her.
Post processing included increasing exposure by 2 stops, increasing brightness and contrast, cropping just a little to improve composition, increased hue in her iris by 10% and autocoloured a layer then set opacity to 75% to remove strong colour cast. Sharpened with USM set to 75%, 2 px radius and threshold 3

You should be happy. This is a great shot. I love how you added the details about talking to her to bring out her expression!

This is nice especially the highlighting of the eyes. Contrast is very high though, maybe tone it down a little bit.

Effective use of a modified vignette effect; one of the few photos I've seen this week which might have benefitted from a few more pixels on the sides to support the fade-out.

If the lighting would have been better this would have been great. Very washed out. 6

One of the better shots this week, and I attribute a lot of that to your expressive little model. I think the red light on the left side works against you, and this particular shot might have been better without the high-key treatment, but B&W might solve both concerns.

Absolutely beautiful high-key portrait! Lighting is excellent and I love her pose, smile and gaze. Color is good too, especially your model's hair, although skin tones may be a little washed out around her cheeks, but I think that is in the look you were going after. Very well done, and congratulations.

I am loving the high key entries into the challenge. I think this is my third favorite over all, not just of the high keys. The lighting and the color are sooo nice, her eyes are perfectly placed to draw attention, her gaze and the tilt of her head make the photo move.

I love the focus, dof, natural pose of the model, skin tonings, and color of the hair, eyes etc but the lighting seems to me to be a bit too bright, the background and model's outfit too white.

Beautiful shot! The underexposure might be just a bit much, but it really brings out those eyes. Really great job.

Lighting: Beautifully done high-key. The only change I would consider would be a stronger catchlight, but I am not certain about that.
Pose: The pose is good, perhaps her head could be turned a bit more to her right, just enough to hide that ear is what I am thinking. Doing so would, I believe, allow the light to give the face better depth and make the left ear not quite so obvious. Very minor points to consider toward an image that works.
Background: What background? :)

great high key style portrait - the eyes look unnaturally brown/ orange though

excellent - i like the brightness of the shot, and it's technically great - sharp, and nicely noise-free. it's an especially good, expressive picture that will do well. 9.

Excellent. I'm partial to pale tone portaits and this one is fantstic. The expression is perfect.

seems like the light on her right is more reddish or orangeish, too different than the other lighting, makes her look like a redhead on one side while a dirty blonde on the other; other than that a fine portrait

Pretty girl...I think I would like this photo even more if it weren't over-exposed.

Lovely young lady in a great pose! I really like how she's looking off frame too. Hey, your lighting is a touch harsh though making the shot look kinda flat. You got awesome light on her hair. A little catch light in her eyes would make them twinkle nicely! I think this is done with a reflector or a smaller light to the front.

Beautiful shot. The eyes seem brighter than the rest of the image, am I am not sure if I like that or not, but overall it is sensational.

Exceptionally well done high key. The touch of pinkish lighting on right side of her head is a nice touch. May be better if thge drsss on the left side of the frame didn't merge into th background. Beautiful brown eyes - I think I would like it better if she were looking somewhat at the lens. Overall - a very strong studio portrait, congrats!

I like your photo...its a little blown out but that works with this type of pic... however oversaturating the eyes is a real pet peve of mine.

The only thing I dislike is that she isn't looking into the camera. I know it's not always necessary, but I think it would made this one perfect.

Beautiful high key! I love her eyes! WOW! I just wish her mouth was closed
a little more,..., what the heck I'll give it a 10 anyway! The eyes make up the difference!

I love this but maybe the post processing is over heavy on the eyes? Still a 9!

Very nice effect, but I would have not saturated the eyes so. The smile and the scant look is very charming.

Nice capture, skin appears too pale. Left side crop too close.

I like this shot. You obviously overexposed on purpose here, and it works. The brown eyes really stand out

This is quite a bit high-key. The desaturation looks gives her eyes a very odd and unnatural appearance. This is not too be mean--I'm giving you an objective opinion since this is very likely a loved one and we tend to see with the eyes of love---she is a really cute girl and this is a great expression but her ears stick out a tad with her hair tucked behind. Not so much that I would be likely to notice in everyday life but for a lasting portrait, I would suggest next time, have her wear her hair down. My eye keeps straying toward her left ear.

Wow ... these brown eyes are beautiful ! Only thing I can see that will maybe make this perfect photo even more perfect is to have some space on the left so the girl are looking to that direction ... but very beautiful and you get the first 10 that I give in this challenge.

Seems a bit overexposed. Parts of shirt seem to blend in with the background.
