tried to take a picture of a tabasco bottle "mosaic" that i made out of real peppers and their seeds, with a real bottle laying next to it coming out of the box. adjusted the colors, cloned out a blemish in my background, resized, cropped, and added a border. took picture in a light box, so had to use my wide angle lens to get back far enough with the camera inside the box.

wow!!! i can't believe it... i thought this photo was not going to do well since i wasn't sure if it was the right kind of shot for this challenge, and i had such lighting issues (and i don't know alot about editing yet)....but i am sooo thrilled about this!! i almost submitted a totally different (less creative) shot... so glad i went with this one. thank you so much for all the wonderful comments!!! this is so going in my profile :)

can anyone help me??.... i provided my original, but they asked for it again, when i check the file, it said it was modified, but i didn't do anything to it. the only thing i can think is that it auto-resaved it after i rotated it upright to look at it. not sure if i can fix that, but i'll feel really stupid if i lose my ribbon just from not knowing stuff about computers and files.... i had no idea that rotating a picture modified the file...

Do you still have the original image on your card?

This just gets my blood going. Seeing great images get DQed for a minor thing like this is maddening. Hope you find your original.

Make a back up immediately after copying them from your card. Use software that will leave the image's integrity intact.

Or just copy and paste them directly from your card to your disk drive. No software involved in this that can change the image integrity.

Lightroom is a great piece of software for transferring your images from the card. I know it's expensive but it's worth it imo.

feel very sorry for you Kelly! T\As Raj said, that's why you need to switch to RAW shooting ASAP. It is very difficult to destroy RAW files, anything you do with them is saved elsewhere.

Sorry about the DQ, Kelly. I had a DQ for almost the same reason. From then on, I shoot RAW and submit the RAW file for validation. With JPEG, there is always a chance that it might get rotated and saved, if we are not careful with the message that pops up. I learnt it a hard way and I know exactly how it feels.

This is tragic... Sorry about the DQ. But, as many people say, blue ribbon or not, it is an amazing image.

I had a close call with the same issue you had. Rotated an image in windows, and it modified the image. Now, I shoot everything in RAW. The RAW image serves well as the original. Hope your camera shoots in RAW.

Oh dear, that's really too bad. But yes, viewing software (like Windows Viewer) for instance, does indeed change the data if you rotate a file. NEVER do anything to your originals. If need be, make two folders and put the shots in each folder, mark one as "Original", the other as "Working". Then if you don't need the original you can dump that folder later. Make sense?

Still a darn fine shot and I still think you should send it to the company!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Why did I end up with your picture!? It was one of my highest rated pictures in the challenge and you won the blue, I'm definitely not worthy! Congratulations by the way and I hope everything worked out with the validation!

This is such a creative picture, I wish I had these kind of ideas. 7.7 score is just amazing, that'll be one hard personal best to beat. Reading through the comments there were a couple things that people picked up that I didn't notice. The tiny bit of black in the very bottom right, the yellow corn on the S and people wanted a whiter background. Those are the only very small things that could be fixed in this picture.

Looking at the votes you got, you only received 6 votes under a 6. Has that ever happened before? Excellent job and hop to see more great entries from you.

If you have any questions click here to message me!

There's nothing wrong with adding the watermark Kelly. That's exactly what the feature is there for. There have been plenty of examples of "low-res" files being ripped off for commercial purposes, including one by DrAchoo that was used for a billboard!

Yes my friend, it is authentic as per rules newly created. The size of the image on DPC are not high resolution. They can not be used for professional purpose. They give just an idea to the budding photographer about the techniques used and not more than that. I wanted to make this picture my favorite, but I felt the copy right text like an ugly spot on a beautiful face. I perhaps may be wrong !
Anyway, it is a very creative idea, hard labor and excellent result.Keep it up in future !
Many many congrats for a BLUE :-)

did i do something wrong by adding a watermark to my photo? i just thought i was protecting my image from being stolen.... i've had so many views on my profile since this ribbon, i thought i needed to protect myself (and my pics). if i used this incorrectly or in bad taste, that was not my intention at all..... my only intent was protect my photos
03/31/2010 06:54:22 AM
I saw that trademark as well and wondered why it was disqualified. Was it added after the fact by DPC and if so, why not on all of the entries?

Kelly
A really great piece of work - especially the set up and execution of the Tabasco bottle with peppers - brilliant idea and brilliantly delivered.

I am really sorry to hear about the issues with the image deletion. Just remember, that you have this great image no matter what befalls the fate of the image in the challenge.

a raw file in it's original format is .dsc for Sony cannot be changed. If you sent anything other than xxxxxx.dsc format they won't accept it as an original file.

Love the concept and do appreaciate the time spent to make your bottle. Think a pure white background (and I hate the white background shots) would have really made this photograph and highlighted the bottle nicely.

Very creative!! It would have been "perfect" if you had moved the seeds off of the "S" in "tabasco" (possibly the second "a" also), and had more light to get rid of the shadows. Very Nice!

Truly appreciate your efforts in setting this up.

The background you have used here seems to be white, but it actually looks pink on my monitor(or I don't know if it is actually pink). So the overall image looks predominantly reddish with the red subjects. Something could have been better here. Either the lighting, white balance or exposure.

Really amazing setup. Would have been so much better though if you had managed to get the background white in processing by playing with the levels. You may possibly have it anyway, but I imagine that would have guaranteed you the blue.
