Challenge: Free Study 2010-03 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC for Canon
Location: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Date: Mar 21, 2010
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/250 sec
Galleries: Candid, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Mar 29, 2010

I added some contrast to the image, then I blurred it, added a vignette, brought out the colors, and added grain. I wanted to give it like an abstract and painting-like look to it. I have a feeling some people will not like it for the post editing but I personally really enjoy it, and want to see how it'll fair.

Got an 8 from me, one of my most favorites of the challenge. Gloriously evocative. Ridiculous finish, but you knew that would happen, right?

Light, tones and grain. Nothing superfluous. I admire your nerve and your restraint. And your photo.

Simply awesome. I thought it might be a pinhole shot, but I would expect the waves to be more blurred from a longer exposure time. Doesn't matter much; the end result is great.

nice choice for sepia (dual tones?), gives a nice tranquil feel

Grain and blur is always good.

I know I'm suppose to "ponder" this....

....ok, I've pondered. The post treatment makes this seem like a watercolor painting on coarse paper or something. It's ok - but doesn't really seem like a photo anymore. JMO. Good luck.

I don't think the noise works so well. The OOF is good though.

I like this alot, the noise, tone, light, gives it a very nostalgic feeling.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: You'll be getting killed for the blur but I think it is masterful - the restriction of clarity makes us keep our distance and the paradoxically the image becomes more intimate, we feel like we are watching something authentic and uninfluenced by observation. The coloration matches the scene perfectly - I feel like I am watching a silent 8mm film, so with the (not) crashing waves - your title is perfect.

Critical stuff: Nothing

Overall: Excellent work.

This really appeals to me. Perhaps a stronger border may have added to the shot. Well done!
