 Taken with an ND8 neutral density filter in the evening.

The thinking was to aim for textures, and there's certainly a lot of textures here. I placed myself to get all the roots in the foreground, but the trunk of the tree does obscure the bridge, so to compromise I placed the tree against one of the bridge piers so that it was as unobtrusive as possible.

Using UFRaw 0.17
convert to mono using channel filter - mostly green, much reduced blue

This is lovely. I'd have expected a higher score, actually. Amazing that a 6.2 only yields 38th place, such a high-scoring challenge... It's my sense of it that the more intricate, less dramatic images didn't fare as well as they perhaps ought to, but I know which category I'd rather have a 20x24 of on my wall :-)

Wonderful old roots! Appears oversharpened on my monitor but that will vary among viewers, I'd imagine.

Love how the roots become the main element in this picture, even though there's a stone bridge behind. Well balanced.

Interesting image. Cool location and cool details. Betcha you wished this was advanced edit. Dodge and burn pimpage galore could be had here. I wouldnt be able to hold myself back. Very well done in basic though. No vote - just commenting.
