cows, calves, and at least one horse enjoying a verdant hillside in rural Virginia

shot at 105mm - I was up on the roadside looking down, shooting wide would have been, well, too wide - too much foreground shrubbery up where I was standing, so I had to frame it out with a narrower angle of view.

I'm especially fond of the tiny cow head in the bottom right corner.

My comment was way too brief - nothing was blown out in your picture, and the extraordinary contrast is delightfully and subtly complemented by the variations within each "zone."

For the life of me, I can't figure out why so many see this as blown out/over exposed. I can't! Or maybe people weren't using the proper terminology? Perhaps "pale" might have been a better term...but then again, "pale" is not a flaw...and one must always seek the flaw when looking at a photograph.

...or, maybe some serious monitor calibrations are in order for some of the viewing/voting population.

beautiful! funny I was just thinking that it reminds me of tnun's entry - as if part of a series.

I love this!!!! (Pascal's Pasture?) Someday we should sit down and trade blown out high contrasty comments. Or philospher cards.

Very blown out and not much detail.

A little too blown out.

The overexposed shot doesn't really hurt this scene and gives it a high key or possibly infra red treatment. The rolling lines of the slopes throughout add good composition and the silhouetted cows add interest.

everything seems to be blown out - except for the horse and the cows

for me this seems to be quite blown out, it lacks the rich, rich tones that voters seem to like

I also struggled with balancing the full tonal range, but this looks too high-key contrasty to me.

I think I can see why you choose to blow this out, but I don't think it helps the shot.
