Challenge: Rejected Movie Poster (Expert Editing*)
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Location: Dining room table
Date: May 1, 2010
Aperture: 8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200
Galleries: Self Portrait, Horror
Date Uploaded: May 1, 2010

I'm on the floor and my wife is sitting on the dining room table with her feet on an ottoman, the right one slightly elevated by a shoe box under the black sheet I used to cover everything up. The camera is on a tripod on the table, up close to the ceiling. I got the framing set so I wouldn't have to crop, and so this photo has not been cropped at all.

I tethered the camera to my laptop, so I could easily see the results of my shots without climbing up & down on the table. I put the camera on ten second timer and also plugged in a remote shutter release to more easily take shots.

I set the lighting & framing up by myself, one strobe frame-left, and one frame-bottom, under the table. I wanted to get some of the lit-from-below look as if I were holding a flashlight under my chin while telling ghost stories at a campfire. Then I called in the primadonna leg model. We took one shot, reviewed it briefly on the laptop, and adjusted her leg angle, took a second shot, and reviewed that. Right away I said that's it, no need for any more shots.

Major thanks go out to The Village Burners DPL team for all of the great brainstorming, and tanguera in particular, who originally came up with the concept which I immediately fell in love with, as I've always been a fan of this movie, Jack Nicholson, and Steven King.

The DPL system doesn't allow people on the same team to vote on one anothers' entries, while the private team thread is there for creative collaboration. It's fun, you should try it. DPL teamwork and feedback is a great thing, though I do also believe the DPL may raise the bar unfairly compared to those who are not on a team. I think this has been discussed somewhere before.
