An athlete lands gracefully in the Triple Jump competition at the Front Range Classic on May 1, 2010.

The lines of the subject are aligned on the diagonal relative to the squared scene. The subject's head and landing feet are positioned to hit the intersections of the rule-of-thirds lines. The image connotes action at the decisive moment with sand flying and the landing mark established.

In response to the comment about the jump not being very long, this is the Triple Jump. The last portion of that event is not intended to be a long distance over sand. The sand is simply the landing area. It's a different event than the Long Jump, which is conducted on a run with a different sand pit. The foul line for the triple jump is the white line behind the athlete (where the judge is sitting).

I gave it a 7 even without the explainations on the rule of 3rds and the diagonal relative to the squared scene. However, I did notice the rule of 3rds and how his arms were aligned...all on my own. I learned most of my rule of 3rds from the book -

"Rule of Thirds...Learn It...Love It...Live It".

technicals of the photo are nice. the long angle doesn't really give a feel of distance as it appears he just barely reached the sand. If i were the long jumper i would most likely want to be captured soaring through the air...luckily i'm just a lame commenter at dpchallenge.-8
