Bought the anthuriums and took a few shots. I thought they needed just that little extra so that they weren't 'just flowers' ..... this was the only ladybird I could find in the whole garden today - we've been inundated with them until I the time when I really needed one....

Thank you each and everybody who voted for this image to give me my first ribbon - what an exciting day!! Well worth getting up at 5.45am to check the results :-)))) {Big smile on my face}

Wish I could thank everyone who left comments personally...hope you'll all accept a huge THANK YOU ... Anniek

I'd be interested to see the original as I am not clear as to what the violation cited was
05/21/2010 09:07:29 AM
oh, what a shame, but it is still a very beautiful picture...

What a bunch of kind people - I broke the rules (unwittingly) Ignorantia juris non excusat....

I must admit that I went all hot and cold and felt really guilty when I first got notified and did consider leaving the site but my thoughts are now ... I'll just take my medicine and do better next time.

Thank you all for your kind comments and support.

I know that there are rules ... but they must be applied with common sense and humanity.

The ribbon should be returned to its rightful winner!

Humanity? She broke a rule, no exceptions.

I feel for you anniek but rules are there for a reason.

Sorry about the DQ. Still a wonderful image and a favourite.

Just out of curiosity, what would the image look like cropped after the slight rotation? Would you lose some of the petals (so you wouldn't have to fill in the gaps)? Or would the petals just be closer to the edge?

Oh dear - big learning curve for me - I really didn't realise that what I did was wrong - still very new to this game but as always I will learn from my mistake.

I selected the original image and rotated it ever so slightly so that the petals were aesthetically more pleasing within the frame and then infilled the background with white....I must admit that this doesn't seem so terrible to me but if what I've done is wrong I totally accept the decision.

Knocked down but I will bounce back....

congrats on this beautiful composition from one of your twenty six 8's
too bad about the DQ.....from what the SC said..it seems there is a selective white border blending with the white background.

edited to correct typo

I don't normally like studio shots of flowers/plants/ladybugs on a white background but I can't realistically give this anything less than a 9. I expect this will ribbon and it will be well deserved.

Clever how you don't see the Ladybird immediately .... then find yourself looking for other things you might have missed. Like I say, CLEVER!

Just a lovely shot. I think the ladybug detracts from the shot, but I know it is a popular DPC convention. Never the less the framing and lighting make this my pick for a ribbon
