 The roots here are a bronze sculpture replicating an old sycamore felled on 9/11/01 by World Trade Center debris falling into the St Paul's Chapel yard a few blocks north of this location. Trinity Church itself has been rebuilt three times since 1698.

To those commenting on the halos around the branches, it's not from sharpening but from ACR processing. The halos appeared from the Recovery slider. Maybe I should not have used it but that was the decision at the time. I'll try a reprocess just for training purposes. Thanks for the comments anyway.

really interesting angle and composition. Oversharpened as there is bad haloing around the branches.

I believe there was a tad over sharpening happening here - you can see the halos around the foreground branches. Otherwise I like the picure.

The tree branches are a barrier between the viewer and the photo. Being kind of blurry and halo-ey, they kind of dominate the photo. This is a BEAUTIFUL shot, wonderful framing, lighting, texture, color, everything... except for the branches.
