For this challenge, I decided to reproduce a surrealistic shot originally created by the french photographer Philippe Ramette. It is called "The Balcony", and won several prizes.

This was quite EPIC to shoot.
- First I had to buy the wood and build the structure.
- Then, I traveled a first time to a lake a few kilometers away from my house, and measured the depth of the water at various locations, in order to build the feet of the structure with appropriate lengths.
- After that, I cut the feet at home, and transported everything back to the lake. Believe me, this thing is heavy! My wife and I had a hard time installing it.
- Shoot!

Was a very fun day :-)

Indeed. And without a vertical lake would have been better too I suppose, since it kind of gives a clue.

Christopher, Congrats on the ribbon and PB. Great choice and a brilliant execution.

Looking at the efforts you have spent on this, I feel the score should have been 8+. Many, like I did would have thought that the wooden structure already existed there.

Haha, thanks Alfredo for all the kind words :-)

I would add that I started photography 1 year ago due to my wife working almost every Saturday, which means I have a full day every week that I can affect to my shots... I am aware this is a great advantage over persons that have kids or family to take care of, which also explains why I am able to fool around with wood sticks ;-)

Gyaban joined DPC less than 4 months ago, got a red on his 1st free study entry, then a blue... and (so far) has grabbed 5 ribbons during DPL2
5 out of his team's top 6 percentiles are his
Portraiture, indoor setup, outdoor setup, landscape, color, b&w, he's done it all with tons of talent
..... what an outstanding performance!
I don't know if that is a record for DPL, but I am sure it will hardly be matched in the future.
Huge congrats Christophe!!!

How did you manage to get those concentric ripples? I think that is a major element in your amazing composition.

Thank you :-)
The concentric ripples were achieved by me stepping into the water a few seconds before shooting the photo. This is why my trousers are wet, and also the reason why I decided to not wear shoes.

Marvelous! I cannot believe you would have constructed the "balcony" just for this challenge. The sky, the water, the perfectly reflected fringe of trees - I smell a winner here, and I've only just started looking at the entries. Incredible preparation and set up. An instant fave

Back to marvel at this photo. To me it is even better than the original. My pick for the blue.

So so cool. What is the structure that makes up the balcony? Wonderful treeline and color of the water is lovely.
If you try this again, consider getting the camera a little closer to the water, and tilting a bit more up. Great shot.
