shot through a 10-stop ND filter on a bright Sunday morning :). I didn't know this girl but I asked her to try to stand still for a few of seconds despite the surf roaring through her feet. I am grateful that she agreed and did a great job posing for me. She turned out to be a great surfer too, not just a kind person :). Her father told me she started surfing at 4... she is 10 now.

that's she riding the wave

Yippee! Go ViewFinders!

Thanks for the comments, faves, and the ribbon!

[Notice that I was using a DX lens on an FX body. Starting from ~18mm and longer it covers the sensor without vignetting and acts as a pretty decent full-frame wide-angle lens]

No, I wish I had it! I gave the dad my card, but he did not contact me :(. I can try to track them down again at the beach possibly, though

Were you standing on a lifesavers tower? (unlikely as lifesavers towers are not right on the edge of the water) Or maybe you are a giant and the girl is a dwarf :) But seriously, I would like to know.

you are an astute observer :)... and I am not a giant :(. I was standing on a cliff about 3 meters high, indeed quite close to the girl. This shot (taken on the same day a few meters to the side) gives you some idea of the scenery

Awesome shot Lev. This has a wonderful 'mood' about it. scored a 9. Congrats on your ribbon.

Just one thing, are you sure it was a 10 stop ND? I would think 0.8 seconds with a 10 stop at f5.6/ISO 200 would have resulted in a nearly black image no matter how bright the sun was. Could you check it out please, it is intriguing.

Andres, that's correct, I just double-checked my EXIF. why would you think it is strange? without the filter the exposure would be 1000x smaller, i.e. 1/1250s, quite normal for a bright daylight.

I guess 5.6 is really not all that small, I was probably intuitively thrown off by the apparent softness of the light which leads you to think of a cloudy day. You are correct regarding the math. Thank you for answering my question.

Once again, GREAT IMAGE !!

Perfect timing and processing on the incoming wave. I wonder how many people who haven't tried taking a picture of a breaking wave will give this the credit it deserves. Very well done. 10
