Spotted these boys riding their bikes up and down the slope of a dam on the riverfront and thought it would make for a cool shot. It does, but I also think the strong silhouetted image is a bit of a cliche shot. I like this, but I've also done better.
The tilt in this image is primarily a natural one (I did add a few degrees, however), and I expect some to pick that up from the positions of their bodies on the bikes. Not sure if that aspect will help it or hurt it in voting, but the description does not say it has to be an artificially induced tilt. Comments ought to be interesting.
Anticipated critiques:
-Perhaps some haloing might be visible depending on monitor adjsutment.
-Some unavoidable banding in the sky. (Topaz Denoise was helpful in minimizing it, however)
Post-challenge notes:
Pretty darn happy with a top 10, however I am actually more pleased with my lower scoring entry from the first tilted challenge, and I know exactly why:
This current entry is just good, sharp eye candy, but ultimately I think it is forgettable. My other tilted entry, however, captured an emotion and a great moment in a little girls life. It is one of those shots I keep going back to because I am so pleased with what I captured on camera, in spite of any technical imperfection.
Perhaps I am evolving...

Congrats on the Top Ten Finish, Steve! Way to go!!! :)
Having said that, I also need to say that while it's a GREAT piece for DPC's "Eye Candy Love", I do agree with you that your previous entry (shown in your notes above) DOES take the cake! It's pure and raw emotion and joy that you've captured! I can FEEL her enthusiasm and child's joy. Unfortunately, that's not what "sells" here in DPCland and that's a shame. I think you are evolving in recognizing the difference between what emotes something from a viewer and what's considered "good photography" in DPC.
Congrats on BOTH shots as they both have their purposes and audiences. :) |
