Challenge: Baby Animals (Advanced Editing VII*)
Collection: 2010
Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: Tamron AF 18-270mm F/3,5-6,3 Di II VC LD Aspherical [IF] macro for Nikon
Date: Aug 2, 2010
Date Uploaded: Aug 2, 2010

Taken earlier this year. It was really hard for me to choose because I foster cats I have a ton of kitten images, and I suspect that at least half the entries will be kittens. I had originally submitted some baby chick shots from way back, but they were too low res to really be great (this was before my current D90). I even went to the zoo but the only babies there were swans, and they refused to cooperate, staying the shade and hiding behind their moms and dads.

So it was down to this image (Manx mom Sheba who'd just had surgery) with Lord (the little lynx-point Manx), and another one of just Lord. There was also an image of Sheba with all four or her kittens (Lord was the only Manx).

I chose this one. I hope I chose well.

Cloned out a cable cord at the top and some dust bits around the floor. Several rounds of levels, hue/saturation, contrast, USM, added border, saved for web.

Firstly let me say I am far from being a cat person but this shot exudes excellence. The lighting, processing, depth and clarity in the eyes, and framing make this one a gem and you cannot help but like it.....even if you don't like cats! A credit to your work Johanna. Well done!

This is fun. Kitty does not look happy at all to be wearing the collar. Cute shot.

They are not amused! Haha! So typical of cats. Love the expressions and composition with the diagonal wooden floor.

Amazing clarity in the eyes. Good mix of detail/softness in the fur. I like the border effect used in this photo.

nice capture, just needed a bit more DOF. the border rather distracts, i were gone for a more natural looking vignette
