 Okay, I wasn't going to enter this challenge, but then I had an idea, so I pulled something out. And here it is.

My enthusiasm was increased by the arrival today of my first off-camera strobe (sans umbrella, which presumably would be arriving shortly). That's my background light. The cool color is the result of white balancing for my incandescent-colored fluorescent lights that I used to light me.

This is a three-light setup: background strobe pointed at the wall, two clip-ons, one on each side, bounced off of reflectors for the foreground. The light on the right was slightly stronger. I should have had a fourth light (or stronger side lights) so that I didn't run straight black in big chunks of the image, but... oh well.

PP mostly involved smoothing out the background a bit, cloning out a light switch, and fixing some weird shadows on my face and fringing on the suit.

I'm not sure why I'm submitting this.

Thanks for the good score despite the flaws in this photo! I totally agree with all the critical comments and I appreciate them. It's rare for me to have a concept that's better than the execution!

Great shot - I gave it a 7. Thought it fit the challenge well. I'm soooo gonna be in trouble in the Better than your Average challenge :D

I like this, I can visualise it on one of those annoying cheap ads for some dubious "get rich quick" product!

Nice set up except that the blue should be seamless (there is a distracting area on the left side under his hand. The light behind him seems a bit harsh but overall I think this is good!. 8
