Challenge: Black and White Still Life (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: Misc
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Location: Birmingham, England
Date: Aug 10, 2010
Aperture: f/16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1.3 s
Galleries: Black and White, Floral
Date Uploaded: Aug 10, 2010

I wanted to create an image where the 'black and white' handling contributed something in addition to just a desaturation effect - where it became a fundamental element. In that regard, I think it is a successful image.

Lit with a data projector sitting on its short side.

love the starkness of the B&W...to me it's definitely an "out of the box" for still life...and that's why I like it so much...awesome picture

Hey Paul,

I happened to be in the neighborhood tonight and ran across this photo of yours...just wanted to say it's a wonderfully done piece of art! Nice.

Love the stark darkness yet details of the flowers are preserved nicely

Just love how the third dimension is integrated/lost. You can share my yellow ribbon.

hoping that you put your set-up steps in your comments...I would like to know how you got the white vs black area ...really like the shadow play...well done

Cool shadows. Kind of a retro photo. I'm not sure about the large black area around the central white area though. Overall I like the concept and you executed it well. (no vote)

People might not like this kind of shadowing, but I might be way wrong. I personally like it though. I prefer you to crop all white background and the shadow, but this is not too bad.

very clever and original. i would penalize for flowers generally as it's overdone but this is refreshing. 8
