Woohoo... A ribbon :)

Didnt think I would have a chance when the challenge was announced. The credit for the idea is not mine, however. I had seen a photo that used the pins in this manner. Unfortunately, I dont remember where I saw the photo, so I cannot give proper credit to the original artist.

My photo is an HDR created from a single RAW file, and then edited in Photoshop.

Edit: Huge thanks to timmi for getting me the link to the original:
Wintermoon @ Toronto Photo Club
Wintermoon is George Rustchev, from Bulgaria. He has a portfolio at photo.net:

In response to Citadel's comment, here are some more outtakes:
Colour version - only cropped and sharpened

HDR version - processed in photomatix from a single RAW (used CS5's Camera Raw to make three exposures)

This is a very cool idea that you improved upon. I guess not everyone finds the abnormally portrayed to be intriguing... whomever gave you a 1 on this is just mad their cat-nose photo didn't win the last open challenge so I wouldn't take it personally :) Great camera too (the D200).

Great Bouquet - check
razor sharpness (literally) - check
creativity - check
strangeness - check

Yours is better than the one on the Toronto Photo club site by far.

Great work!

That is such a cool image and concept - it looks like the pear has been riveted together - and the processing finishes it perfectly.

Congrats on the well deserved ribbon.

Very nicely done. I especially like the feel the pins add to the image. I could easily see this image as an art print, as it is an image that one would not tire of seeing. Would love to see this on a gallery wall as a large art print. This is where the impact would be felt. Congrats on a very well deserved ribbon.

Great photo, great concept and really good of you not to fall into the temptation of calling this 'Frankin-pear'

Thanks.

It took me about 20 minutes to put all the pins in, and about 5 minutes to set up the light tent to get the best shadows. In hindsight, I should have put the light tent up first, to ensure the pear didn't get too brown, but I had intended this pear as a trial only. But, after putting the time in, I decided to shoot this one right away.

oh...I meant to put this in my previous comment. Is it possible to see the color version w/o editing? Just curious about the monochrome conversion.

Ha! Now if I could only predict the next five minutes of my life.....

Congrats on a great idea, even though it wasn't yours originally. Well done. I think this should have blued.

could this possibly be aimee again or an homage to her shot? regardless, the idea is original and the processing and lighting are fantastic 8

The pear is actually quite cool for a subject, but the backdrop on which it's sitting, is very distracting that I think it hurts the picture. 5
