Howdy from the Critique Club!! :)

WOW! This shot just bowled me over when I first saw it. This was probably my favorite shot in Freedom II.. I really don't at all feel qualified to be critiquing this shot, but I'll do my best!

The composition in this is fantastic, probably one of the better setups I've seen in my days. I love the clean lines of the kite strings, the smooth perspective really helps to draw the photograph together. I also like that it's not quite a perfect diagonal, everything is shifted just slightly towards the middle. This gives it a very subtle sense of being off-balance, which in my eyes makes it much more interesting. The only thing I could suggest is that I think the clouds in the upper right corner are a bit distracting. I would prefer to see that patch left blue, giving a stronger emphasis on the kite. However, I'm sure there are just as many (if not more!) people who like it just the way it is. :)

Exposure is superb, the colors are great. The light pink and yellow seem to contrast with the bold blue and red. A little more saturation on the kite make bring out those colors and add an extra punch to an already great photograph.

In the context of the challenge, this photo can be seen several ways. My first impression is that the kite will never get its freedom because it was always be held down by the strings of THE MAN - er, the boy. ;) However, from the perspective of the child, he could be living out his freedom vicariously through the kite. Strictly on the sense of meeting the challenge, I'm surprised this photo did as well as it did, but obviously the great quality of the shot more than made up for any possible arguments against it.

Overall an amazing photograph, and very deserving of its high ranking. Keep holding out for that blue - judging by your portfolio, it's inevitable! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail or PM me.

-Stacy :)

the clouds look fake, i dont see the freedom in flying a kite
It`s all real. Just used levels/hue, saturation adjustments and neatimage.

Clouds look fake?? They look real to me. You can easily get that effect by using a polarizer.

Dang! Nice shot -- I just took Isaac to fly his first kite today and took about 10 shots like this. Now I have validation that they are not snapshots!

Congratulations!

This is an excellent image. I think 'freedom' is well defined here and the composition is excellent.

Something about this doesn't look quite right to me. Was the kite added later? Nice colours though.

This is awesome. I love the colors of the jacket and the soft red of it. There is a surrealism to this and it's great. Awesome job! 10

LOVE the perspective and depth of field ... nice interesting sky as well! It doesn't scream "freedom" to me, but I suppose it's a valid interpretation. 7

Seems oversaturated to me (not a fan of that look myself) but otherwise a great shot. The perspective ads interest, great contrast between the red shirt, blue sky, and pink/yellow kite. And the clouds are great too. This shot would've seemed boring if the sky was solid blue. Well done!

Really like this! You've taken this from a great angle, really helps us to see what the boy is seeing! Esposure is perfect, nice and sharp! Well done, full marks!

Very nice colours and framing. I've thought I've taking a shot like this I didn't think it could turn out this good. I'd be interested to know what size lens you used.

The strongly saturated colours work well in this image as does the unusual viewpoint and composition. This is one of my two top images for this challenge as it conveys the challenge theme very strongly within the image. 9

Even without looking at any other photos, I already want to give this one a 10. Everything about the picture is good. Great focus. Crisp contrast with the deep blue sky and the striking kite strings that lead the viewer up to the free and boundless heights. I feel like I'm starting to write a poem so I'd better stop myself and just give you the 10 right now. Congrats on the perfect pic for the challenge.

A nicely balanced composition. It would be absolutely perfect if the kite were just a bit redder. The diagnal string gives a nice sense of action.
