Not sure about this one. I like it, especially my use of the trees to frame the scene, but I'm not sure if it has enough DPC "wow-factor" to do well. The evening light was great, but not coming across this field from the best direction, which resulted in some backlighting and a washed out appearance on many of my photos from this set. Expecting a voter average somewhere between "Meh" and "S'okay".

Anticipated critiques:
-No doubt I will get a comment not liking the letterbox border. I don't normally use borders these days, as so many people seem to object whenever a border is used, but nobody knocks point off for NOT having one. In this case, I really felt the black border helped set off the scene better.

Post-challenge notes:
Wow, this one really surprised the heck out of me! It just proves that I have no ability to judge what will or won't have popular appeal. I just need to continue to enter what I personally like and let things sort themselves out. Thanks for all the positive votes, comments, and especially for keeping me stretching week to week to improve.

Awesome trees - very "Texas". Congrats on a great shot (and knowing to convert it to B&W to make it a great shot) and the ribbon!

Love the scene but wasn't too keen on the heavy borders. Can't argue with that great result though. WTG

Real nice finish Steve. A cool shot. Good eye to see and capture this. I'm glad the voters liked this as well.

I particularly like your quote in the post challenge notes : "It just proves that I have no ability to judge what will or won't have popular appeal. I just need to continue to enter what I personally like and let things sort themselves out."

I fail to see the humour in this.... oh wait, this was a serious take on the challenge. lol Great image and the W&B conversion is fitting with the big shadows from the trees and their silhouetted shape. Congrats.

Very nice scene, indeed. I'm not sure (I don't judge popular appeal well either), but I think the bold black borders may have given this the punch it needed to win. Congratulations.

Congratulations on your ribbon. I think the trees act as more than just a frame for this image, as the shapes of the trees are an interesting element to view on their own.

When I start looking to shoot for this challenge, that was the thing was in my mind... not the trees though (trees are the point-makers here). I couldn't find anything that I can take photo of, so I took mine asking to the farmer his permission. I don't know why I feel very nervous if I ask someone's permission. The farm I took photo of was incredibly awesome if I spent more time. It was a cow farm actually, not a crop farm.

Congrats on your ribbon, very nice photo :)

Nicely seen landscape and those silhouetted trees against the light reflected in the dust cloud thrown up from the plough is really dramatic. Very nice but the thick black border on top and below distracts. I think a thin plain black border would have been more effective. 7
