My oldest son Rian. User Trompie also member here. This take was still just experimenting and never got around to try what I wanted. Very glad for this result though.

I wanted to portray chalk in it's educational context. I used a young person as they are the future. At the same time try and portray a young Einstein - ruffled hair. He was from my understanding considered to be not such a bright student. In SA the educational system is failing the people badly and many people will never see their full potential. It starts in the lower grades.

By age 10 it's already to late for most, the damage has been done and the future Einsteins of this generation gone

congrats on the top ten! This is a photo that you can view over and over without getting tired of it. It's very evocative. I somehow missed saying that in my first comment. Silly me! :)

Great finish! The challenge subject (chalk) was not even in focus and you get a score like this... shows that it is a technically strong shot. Well Done!

Die beste foto van die lot. Was dit die natuurlike uitdrukking omdat hy moes poseer? Hehe. Kosbaar.

Dramatic lighting, intense stare. Catches my eye in that you used a boy instead of an older man. I like your technique in having the boy in sharp focus but the chalk lettering soft. Great use of DOF. Interesting image.

I like the one light set up! I think it oculd use a tad bit more relected light to give a better highlight of the outline of the face on the left and just a smidge of detail. Otherwise, very awesome!

Great idea and well executed. I'm not sure about the right side of the face being completely shadowed I think a small amount of detail would have been a little better. Doesn't make a bit of difference in my voting -- I was just thinking aloud. -8-

Guessing the hand writing is by a right-handed person, middle aged, mature and confident meaning it is RianBotes.
Love the touch of chalk dust on the nose and cheek and good use of DOF. Not sure of the dark halo to the left of the neck and face.
Good luck
