Challenge: Dreams III (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Date: Oct 24, 2010
Galleries: Emotive, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Oct 24, 2010

[Oct. 31st, 2010 09:41:40 AM]

The blur was achieved during capture not in post. First, I composed the scene. Then with the use of live view, and a tripod, I used a varying amount, and smear direction, of petroleum jelly. The mostly sharp area was left mostly free of the petroleum jelly.

I haven't yet discovered DPC when this challenge was on. I am interested in techniques, petroleum jelly is now on my list of techniques to learn.

I like the dynamism of the blur contrasted with the stillness of the forest in focus. The tilt adds to the dynamism of the image.

I'm inspired by your description... to actually look at the image in a viewfinder as you smear the vaseline... fascinating idea...

Good for you! I gave it a six and it gradually got bumped to a ten and became my top pick for this challenge.

If we could capture a video still of a dream, I think it would look like this. Incredible.

Do NOT tell me that you're claiming THAT as fulfilling your bet. *serious Rolleyes*

Does anyone else see a "partially peeled orange" in this shot?

Yeah. I thought not. *rolleyes again*

*grin* *Sigh*

Wonderful. I can just imagine trying to run through those trees and it seems like I'm moving but I can't get anywhere. 9

Fabulous, and most certainly "dreamlike". I may be crediting every blur shot to Ben, but this is also very "Ben-like" :-)

One of the best blurry photos I have seen in a long time. The inclusion of a non-blurry piece really sets up the scene, and the blur make it a wild dream.
