An alpha coyote surveys the meadow during the first minutes of sunlight. I was standing motionless in the shade... downwind and slightly downhill from a pack of 5 coyotes. This pack leader could not see me against the sunrise light, but he knew I was somewhere close by. If you look at the back of his mane, you can see the typical wild canine behavior of fur standing on end when alerting to danger. We have very large coyotes in Rocky Mountain National Park. They enjoy good health and plenty of food supply, as they have no predators and no competition. When wolves move back into the area, the coyotes will take a subordinate role in the food chain.

How this slid out of the top five is beyond me.
Rather under rated.

I love the way you framed this, the way the curve of the neck and the curve of the grass echoes back and forth, the tonal evenness and the crisp focus on the eye and nose. Well done.
