I only found this site yesterday, so I didn't have a lot of time to work on this. While driving to my softball game early this morning, my son and I noticed this enormously long condensation trail (frozen water vapor from jet exhaust) which remained intact across maybe 20-30 miles of sky (nearly 80 degrees of out field of view).

Of course, in this case, the subject was still and the camera was moving > 60 mph -- shooting through my very dirty windshield didn't help either, nor did having to shoot with the camera held at arm's-length and looking another direction.

The contrail doesn't show as well against the clouds in this exposure as it did live, but bringing it out any more would require excessive sharpening (looked terrible) or some localized dodging (prohibited). My next one ought to be better!

You need to clean your lens. Neat shot though.
04/21/2002 04:32:00 PM
Clean your windshield first next time!
04/20/2002 09:28:00 PM
if only the windshield hadn't been dirty. great concept.
04/20/2002 12:35:00 PM
what's in motion?
04/20/2002 09:38:00 AM
Sorry, nice divider.
04/20/2002 08:51:00 AM
Not too much stopped-action here.
04/20/2002 03:56:00 AM
Contrails just kind of hang there don't they? I do not see where the motion would come in.
04/19/2002 09:51:00 AM
A stopped motion should be of a subject that appears to be completely still and defies reality by being stil.
04/19/2002 09:11:00 AM
The blare on the left detracts.
04/19/2002 07:30:00 AM
Sorry, this doesn't do much for me.
04/19/2002 06:49:00 AM
The road doesn't lead anywhere, which may have given this picture some point of interest. At the moment, all that stands out are the marks on the window
04/19/2002 02:55:00 AM
hard to see the stop action here. and the window glare spoils it a bit.
04/18/2002 07:38:00 AM
What is that in the sky? Planes?
04/18/2002 01:35:00 AM
How am I supposed to know that your car was moving at all?
04/17/2002 11:32:00 PM
?
04/17/2002 05:52:00 PM
Ya know, I tried this same thing, couldn't get it to work either.
04/17/2002 05:12:00 PM
The contrail is very difficult to spot, plus the glare and marks from the top left distract too much.
04/17/2002 04:56:00 PM
where is the motion which is frozen? the freeway divider?
04/17/2002 11:08:00 AM
Were this photo taken in a car?
Coz I see some dirt on the right top corner.
04/16/2002 07:57:00 PM
Where is the motion?
04/16/2002 01:55:00 PM
If you say so! - but honestly not much going on here worth stopping for.
04/16/2002 01:47:00 PM
Roll your window down next time, so we don't see the spots on the glass :)
04/15/2002 06:25:00 PM
I am sure that you are moving in a car but there is no indication of stopped motion in this photo.
04/15/2002 01:18:00 PM
Looks like your window needs washed (upper left corner). I would have liked a more central subject here. The divider isn't that interesting to look at
04/15/2002 11:41:00 AM
and the action is where...?
04/15/2002 11:40:00 AM
The stop motion is evident, but the window glare distracts. A UV filter would help, it's worked for me.
04/15/2002 09:55:00 AM
Well, it's motion.
04/15/2002 09:51:00 AM
I like the sunraise.
04/15/2002 09:05:00 AM
Your windows need cleaned :) Nothing really eye catching enough or interesting in this, although it meets the challenge goal.
