I start by running an action in PS that creates a separate layer for each of the following from the original:
1. Adjust- Colour correction & Photo Pop
2. Adjust- clarity
3. Detail- creative detail accent
4. Detail- lithograph

I then turn off all the layers except for the first. Then bring in each layer adjusting the opacity as I go.

Obviously settings change depending upon the image but if it is not working I'll turn off the layer entirely. Rarely I'll have a layer at above 70% trying to keep it real.

And in the case of this image I then added some grunge and vignette with Phototools.

This looks good. I love the details on his face.

Whenever I use Topaz on people, I always end up masking out the background because I don't want it to compete with the work I;ve done on the person.

I really like this effect for this image. It's beautiful. Thanks for sharing the process. I think I'll try setting up some similar actions.

Not too heavy - it just brings out all the details of his stubble and his wrinkles lol!

I think that Topaz definably has a place in portrait processing and this photo proves me right!

I don't think it's heavy handed at all! I love it!
