In this photo, I tried to convey the idea that we are actors of our own lives. Day after day, we build it using what we find on our ways, a bit like a bird constructing his nest with branches.

I suppose the nudity and attitude is what got me some low votes. However, it is not gratuitous here: a man with a tailored suit and luxury clothes would not have to build his home from scratch like that... so it just had to be this way.

The setup is quite simple. I constructed the nest using wood collected in my garden. We use these small branches to start chimney fires. The lighting was also strightforward: black backdrop, and 3 flashes (backlight, main light from above, frontal fill). I do agree that it would have more impact outdoor, but it was just too cold and rainy these days... I might reshoot it someday when the weather's better.

As per usual, thank you all for your comments!

What a shame that this didn't ribbon!!! It SHOULD HAVE!!! I gave it a 10 because I thought it was not only brilliantly creative and well done technically but, it made me smile! Kudos to you for such a comically intriguing shot and BAH HUMBUG to those voters who gave this those 1's, 2's, 3's and 4's!
ETA: The "D" in DPC...apparently doesn't stand for "Deep" LOL

Great take on the topic, and a pleasure to not see nuts and bolts. You know, you really should have stepped it up a notch and put this beast of a nest on a cliff. Well done.

I really missed your fantastic imagery, Christophe. This should have ribboned IMO. However, congrats on the HM!

Congratz on top finish. I did expect this to finish in the top 3 though.

One of your best, should have ribboned. You were robbed by those 1,2,3 voters. =P

and... can you please give us some details on the construction/idea of the nest? If you don't, I might not sleep tonight. You constantly confound me.

surely this will ribbon (unless the voters can't figure out the challenge connection duh) ... even so, I have to give you a 7 for the sheer absurdity of this image. well done.

Dude, how are we supposed to score such a bizarre image? It makes me laugh, makes me shake my head, makes me smile knowing you put immeasurable time into the concept and then making it a reality. You have my respect for being the most creative and outlandish photographer I know. In my own interpretation of the challenge, I'm not sure you fully 100% satisfied it.

Fabulously insane. Your unending creativity is only matched by your technical prowess. Always a delight to see what you're up to and how you've done it. Stellar.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No.....it's Superman. Well set up with good lighting. One of my top favorites. Should ribbon and possibly it will be the Blue ribbon. Certainly quite ingenious.
(Not voting as I have an entry in this challenge myself)

Ah, Gyban...I don't like this one as much as your previous work. Lighting is spot on as usual as are the technicals.

I guess I kind of see the bits and pieces, I just don't understand what the naked guy has to do with it. Does he have bits and pieces too?

Here's the blue. I quickly perused the thumbnails and this image just jumped out at me. Your dedication to complexity and construction of concepts is unequaled. A bit of a departure, too, in b/w. Wonderful.
